The internet and the intranet

4 May 2010 580 views No Comment

The differences between an intranet and the Internet for transmitting and receiving information in a communication system:

  • The transmitting and receiving information in an intranet network is available within an organisation and its staffs while it is open to everyone in an internet network. The works in an intranet network can only be done by authorised people and supervised by the administrator.
  • The intranet network is faster than the internet network due to limited number of people accessing the data and the internet has problems like serves broken down, lower bandwidth than the intranet.

Similarities:
The intranet and the internet have the same way of working.

  • The information stored can be accessed a distance away from the serves.
  • The information can be accessed at any time.
  • Support all kinds of Medias.

Intranet often has a connection to the internet and consists of many interlinked LAN. Firewall is used to monitor the flow of data in both directions to maintain the security of the organisation.
